What does self service mean in regards to open hours? 1 18.10.2021 During the self-service hours, there is no staff in the library but the premises are monitored using technology like cameras. In a self-service library, you can borrow and return materials, use customer computers, read magazines and newspapers, work or have meetings. A wireless network is available. The staff service hours and self-service hours are listed on each library’s website. Hämeenlinna main library, Hauho and Nummi libraries in Hämeenlinna and Tervakoski library in Janakkala have self-service hours. You could visit Oodi in the city center and ask if they could help you in any way, since you only are here for one day and Varaamo perhaps doesn't help you.

I asked from my work colleague for information regarding this matter, as he moved from Australia to Finland many years ago.  As I work for Espoo Libraries, I can only speak on behalf of our libraries. However, the library systems in Helsinki and Kerava are very similar. It is quite difficult to work in Finnish libraries without at least a working knowledge of Finnish. However, it's not impossible. I would suggest that you contact the libraries directly that you are interested in working in, and see if you can organise a work placement there.
