Tampere City Library opened a new branch library in Nekala on the 7 Semptember. The library is built into movable container units, similar that are used to transport goods in cargo ships, and it is first of its kind in Finland. The old Nekala library, which operated in school premises, had to be closed due to problems with the indoor air. The new container library is located next to the school building.

The library building consists of six freight containers which creates 145 m² indoor floor space. Use of colours in the interiors and on the outside walls gives the library a unique feel. The library functions as a self-service library and users can enter the premises with their library card and pin code Sundays to Thursdays 7 a.m.-9 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays 7 a.m.- 6p.m.
