The Helsinki City Library doesn’t have separate departments for adults and children on the organization-level of the whole library. We have 36 libraries and 2 mobile libraries (see, http://www.lib.hel.fi/en-GB/organisaatio/ ), separate chlidren’s departments exist in the main library (Pasila) and our biggest branch libraries (Itäkeskus, Kallio, Rikhardinkatu, Töölö and Vuosisaari) and they are run on the library level. Also one of the book mobiles concentrates in children’s material and services. For further information, you can find contact information here, http://www.libraries.fi/en-gb/Kirjastot/Kunnankirjasto.aspx?municipalit… . The amount of personnel working with children’s services is thus quite difficult to say.

You can find statistics in the Finnish Public Library Statistics database, choose Provincial Library, Central Library, http://tilastot.kirjastot.fi/en-gb/basicstatistics.aspx?AreaKey=Y2008T5… or Municipality, Helsinki, http://tilastot.kirjastot.fi/en-gb/basicstatistics.aspx?AreaKey=Y2008T2… .
For staff the information i found is the number of total working years, which is 502.
For the collections the numbers are following: Adult books 1,183,964 (74.18 %) Chilren's books 412,101 (25.82 %), Acquisitions Adult books 80,875 (64.26 %), Chilren's books 44,981 (35.74 %), Loans: Adult books 4,566,651 (70.20 % ), Chilren's books 1,938,488 (29.80 %).
Statistics can also be found on the site of Helsinki City Library, but the recent ones only in finnish http://www.lib.hel.fi/fi-FI/tilastot/ . The most recent annual report in English is Helsinki City Library Annual Report 2007 http://www.lib.hel.fi/File/0dca8c83-32f7-4194-b51c-ccfb0a84904b/AnnualR… .

Helsinki City Library uses an own classification system, HCLCS, http://hklj.kirjastot.fi/ . Some libraries have in addition their own shelf-classification, some themes can be collected in their own shelfs, for instance books about horses, animals, detective stories etc. See for instance, http://www.lib.hel.fi/fi-FI/tapanila/lastenosasto/ .

Helsinki City Library has Chidrens pages in the Internet, see http://www.lib.hel.fi/en-GB/children/ .

Avarage salary of a librarian per month in the whole country was 2056 e (year 2008), no avarage salary for Helsinki region was available. This information can be read in the Statistics Finland Service http://www.stat.fi/index.html , which partly also publishes statistics in English http://www.stat.fi/index_en.html . The avarage salary is probably higher in Helsinki, but maybe again you can find more accurate information in our personnel department (contact information follows).
