I would like to know which classification system you use, and its the same as the other libraries in Finland? Thanks! 198 23.8.2021 Tuusula library uses YKL - Yleisten kirjastojen luokitusjärjelstelmä, in English PLC - Finnish Public Libraries Classification System, http://finto.fi/ykl/en/. It is used in all public libraries except the Helsinki city library, who has it's own classification system, HCLCS - Helsinki City Library Classification System, http://finto.fi/hklj/en/.

Could you tell me the main area of the books in different libraries, for instance, library 10 is for music and ...? I would like to search books in language … 1548 13.12.2010 I am not sure if I fully understand your question. You are right, Library 10 is the library that has the largest collections of music, but they also have some books, especially on IT and travelling. In every other library in the Metropolitan area there are books on languages and arts, and also some encyclopedias. The largest collections of arts books are probably at Rikhardinkatu Library http://www.lib.hel.fi/en-GB/rikhardinkatu/yhteystiedot/. Pasila library is the Main library of Helsinki City Library, so there are the best collections of reference books like encyclopedias. They also have a multiligual library with books in about 70 languages, and a lot of books for learning different languiages. http://www.lib.hel.fi/en-GB/pasila/…
Good evening, I would like to ask a question about cataloguing policy in Finnish public libraries. Is there any central cataloguing department that provides… 1311 12.4.2010 All Finnish public libraries are responsible for their own cataloguing. There is an enterprise, BTJ, http://www.btj.fi/ , who sells materials for public libraries, also cataloguing records. Thus the main part of Finnish public libraries buy cataloguing records from BTJ and fill in information in these records at their own cataloguing departements. Centralized cataloguing for public libraries does'nt exist in Finland. Finnish libraries use Finnish cataloguing rules, http://www.kansalliskirjasto.fi/kirjastoala/luettelointisaannot.html , which are based on the international cataloguing rules by IFLA http://www.ifla.org/en/cataloguing . The cataloguing rules are to be rewritten in near future on the basis of the changes in the international…
I'm interested in learning about the classification system used in your library 1400 13.10.2008 You do not specify the library whose classification system you would like to know about. Do you mean the classification systems in Finnish libraries in general? There are several classification systems used in different libraries in Finland. First of all, to get a general idea about the Finnish library system, please have a look at http://www.libraries.fi/en-GB/ , where you will find access to basically every library in Finland, along with their web OPACs (open public access catalogues). Roughly, one could say that the public libraries here use the Finnish Public Libraries Classification System (PLC) and the scientific and university libraries use the Universal Decimal Classification (UDC). This would nevertheless give an oversimplified…
