The Pulmaario workshops are intended to create positive experiences in the context of library, mathematics and programming and support the learning of citizens’ information society skills particularly in the fields of programming and information technology. The themes of the workshops include mathematics and applied mathematics, coding, phenomenon based and active learning, puzzles, games and dilemmas, mathematical activities and hands-on learning. In the workshops children learn mathematics and programming by doing, modifying and inventing. One important goal of the workshops is to strengthen information skills of children aged 9–13 and their families.
Pulmaario was created in a joint project between the Helmet Libraries or the city libraries of Espoo, Helsinki, Kauniainen and Vantaa and the University of Helsinki LUMA Centre. Expertise and peer guidance is provided by the University of Helsinki.
