Dear Sir or Madam,

I'm a LIS student from Potsdam, who is preparing his thesis.
At the moment I'm searching for libraries in Northern Europe,Israel, USA, Australia, which use a differentiated and patron orientated diversification in their library concerning staff members (ethnic origin, age, sexual orientation, gender, religion) and/or libraries who create conditions under which all employees could absolutely develop (or unfold?) their willingness to perform themselves independant from their sex and other characteristics.
- What answers do the libraries give to that questions ? Do diversity programms exist ? How succesful are they ?
- Is there a hidden or structured discrimination ? If yes, what concept does the library have ?
- Does a equal opportunity commissioner or a diversity commissioner or a conflict management system exist ?

Helsinki City Library has no specific program concerning the issues you are interested in. However, the starting point for all activities in our library is that people are not discriminated for any reason at all be it a question of age, gender, ethnic background or sexual orientation or predilection.
